i think sexism in rock music is definitely something that should be addressed but the only genre that ever gets slammed for misogyny is rap I wonder why
because people are racist dickbags
I READ A THING ABOUT SEXISM IN EMO MUSIC AND HOW THE SONGS ARE ALL “I HATE YOU FOR LIKING SOMEONE WHO ISN’T ME” TOWARDS WOMEN LET ME GO FIND IT
JUST WANT TO POINT OUT THE PRETTY MUCH NO ONE SAYS ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE THEY’RE GODDAMN WHITE MIDDLE CLASS BOYS
I FOUND IT

It’s called ”Emo: Where the Girls Aren’t” by Jessica Hopper.
That was a really interesting read! I actually wrote an essay on sexism in the music industry and I have some interesting stats regarding Warped Tour.
The lineup for the 2014 Warped had about 120 bands. On average, each band had 3 to 5 people. Only 6% of the entire lineup of the tour was female.
The founder, Kevin Lyman, thinks that is “absolutely okay”. His defence is that there aren’t many bands with females in them that would sell tickets to an audience like the Warped one. There are actually quite a few bands that would fit right into the Warped music scene that have women in them. Bands like Screaming Females, Sleigh Bells, White Lung, Shannon and the Clams, Upset, Potty Mouth, Joanna Gruesome, etc. are prevalent in the punk, pop-punk, and metal-core scenes, but Lyman claims to not to have heard of them.
The crowd is 53% female; what is that teaching them? That boys belong on stage and girls belong in the crowd…or backstage.
